Indian Population Growth – A Matter of Concern
India is second
largest populated country and if we don't take any effective steps to control
our population very soon India will become largest populated country in the
world. India holds only 2.0% share of land in the world, whereas India’s
population is equivalent to 17.7% of the total world population and because of overpopulation
our population has become a threat to our country’s economic growth.
As of Saturday, April 11, 2020, based on worldometer
elaboration of the latest United Nations data, India’s population
is more than 1.38 billion and it’s growing at an
average annual rate of 1.2%
which is more than double rate of china. India is a world’s 7th most
density populous country, population
density in India is 464 people per sq. km, whereas in China and Pakistan
it is only respectively 145 and 273 people per sq. km. However, from year of 1982
to year 2020 the yearly population increase rate has been continually decreasing
from 2.35% to 1.20%, but this is not enough. Since India is already overpopulated
means with 1.2% annual population growth
rate Indian population will increase by 16.5 million yearly. As per UN data, India’s
forecast population in year of 2050 will be more than 1.63 billion and population density is 496 people per sq. km.
Due to rapid growth of population in India
is already suffering from unemployment and lack of transportation,
communication, housing, education, healthcare etc. services. Growth of
population has been the root cause of food problems, less capital resources and
low standard of living in India. Rising population increases poverty, it leads
to terrorism, crime, prostitution and beggary. Environmental degradation and
Inflation are the major consequence of over population.
There are many measures steps taken by Indian government to control
population, but it's not proving very effective. I think Indian government must
make strict policy for population control.
For Example:
- India should make a national child policy like china’s a one-child policy.
- Apply strict and high penalties for having more than one child, in adoption case two children's will be allowed.
- Punishment should be both economic and physical (imprisonment).
- In the event of any couple not following the National Child Policy, they will be excluded from all government benefits (ration cards, tax benefits, health care).
- If any couple has divorced, one of them must have to take responsibility for that child, even if the responsible person marries another person, he will be not allowed for born new child.
